I was lucky enough to sit down and chat with the effervescent mascot of this year’s marketing campaign for the 4th Floor Journal, Quinn the unicorn.
Hi Quinn, it’s great to see you—
Oh my gosh! It’s great to see YOU. You look so good. I love your hair like that.
Thank you. How have you been?
I have been A-M-A-Z-I-N-G, thank you for asking! How have you been?
Uh … good thanks. Can you tell me a little about what you’re doing with 4th Floor?
I T-O-T-A-L-L-Y can! So, as you know, 4th Floor is an online journal – how cool is that by the way? An online journal? Anyway, it’s an online journal produced by the students of Whitireia Publishing for the Creative Writing programme, and every year they have a new theme. This year the theme is identity, which is so great because literally everyone can relate to it!
Obviously, being a unicorn, I know all about identity so the super clever marketing team approached me to get on board this year! I’m currently on their Twitter page spreading a whole bunch of positivity.
How do you feel about labels?
That is such a good question, you’re really good at this! I think they’re really helpful. I mean, without a label I would have NO idea whether the container has salt or sugar in it!
… You make a great point. What about the labels we put on ourselves and others?
I am a big believer in everyone living their best lives and being whoever they want to be! I mean, I’m a sparkly unicorn but if I was actually a sparkly horse it wouldn’t really change anything. I’m just me!
Should people read the 4th Floor Journal?
A-B-S-O-L-U-T-E-L-Y, they should! It’s online, which is super-duper convenient! It’s also free! There is literally NO downside to it!
How can people keep up with your unicorn adventures?
Oh! If they go on Twitter – I love Twitter by the way – and search @4thFloorJournal, they can keep up with all my fun adventures around Wellington!
Is there anything you want to say before we finish up?
Don’t forget to catch me at LitCrawl 2018, 4th Floor will be launching on Saturday 10 November, 7:15pm at The Ferret Bookshop on Cuba Street!
THIS was great. Thank you so much for having me!
You’re welcome, Thanks for comin—
Thank you! I had so much fun! Let’s do this again soon!
Anyway, I have to head to a poetry reading, I’ll see you later!
Okay, bye Quinn!
I mean, as Quinn said, it is free so you’ve got nothing to lose.
