The highly regarded Whitireia publishing programme is New Zealand’s only training course for publishing. It teaches the whole publishing process, from manuscript to bookstore.
Developed and run in partnership with publishers, the course is modelled on an apprenticeship. At its heart are practical experience, mentoring and industry contacts.
Diploma in Publishing (Applied)
The year-long Diploma in Publishing (Applied) is based at the Wellington city campus. The course is run as a publishing office where students produce a range of digital and print publications while they study. They undertake work placements in publishing firms, and hear from numerous guest speakers including publishers, editors, designers, sales reps, publicists, booksellers and authors.
Diploma in Publishing
The online diploma maintains an industry focus and individual feedback while providing flexibility for students to study alongside other commitments. It is ideally suited to students with some experience in the industry or with existing networks to help them hone practical skills. The four modules of the diploma can be studied individually.
Introduction to Editing
The editorial module of the Diploma in Publishing can be studied online. An introduction to the practice and principles of editing, this course suitable for those new to editing or those who work in editorial roles without formal training or peer support.
Learn from established book editors and receive individual feedback and peer support through workshops, forums and online course material. This course improves skills and expands opportunities for experienced editors already working in publishing.
