Publishing students were involved in every aspect of publishing the novel Run Thomas Run in 2014. They worked with the author Kate Carty and her publishers, Escalator Press, to establish a design brief and commission a design; they copyedited the text, laid out the pages, proofread and managed the print process; and they set up a marketing and publicity plan.
The latter included organising advance reading copies of the book and sending them to booksellers and media and creating content for the Escalator Press website and newsletters. And naturally it involved helping to organise and sell books at the launch event, held at the Paramount Cinema.
Set in Iraq and England over three decades, Run Thomas Run is the gripping story of a father’s contorted love, a daughter’s coming of age, guilt, redemption and a child’s promise made forty years earlier that should never have been kept.
