Petra Westropp led the student project team that produced a print version of Witi Ihimaera’s 2015 New Zealand Book Council Lecture.
We were extremely lucky to have the opportunity to work with Witi Ihimaera and the New Zealand Book Council for this project.
In many ways, we had a somewhat easier editing job than some of the other projects because Where is New Zealand Literature Heading? was first delivered as a speech. In order to stay true to the original transcript, the editing required was minimal and more of a proofread than a heavy structural edit.
A slightly more difficult task was the cover design. Designing a cover is already quite hard because it’s supposed to be a marketing tool as well as a graphically translated summary of an entire book. For this cover, the New Zealand Book Council had also tasked us with incorporating their brand in some way in the design. Fortunately, we worked with designer Kalee Jackson who managed to meet the Book Council’s brief perfectly.
